AGSEM at the 38th Congress of the CCMM-CSN, June 6-10, Montreal

From June 6-10, 2022, several AGSEM Executive Committee members represented our union as delegates to the 38th Congress of the CCMM-CSN. The theme of the congress, “Solidaires, à toute épreuve!” (“Solidarity, an unbreakable bond!”), encapsulated the spirit of the event, which included union representatives from Montreal, Laval, and Nunavik from all sectors of the workforce.

The triennial Conseil central de Montréal métropolitain Congress was held at the Palais des congrès in Montreal. At the congress, participating unions decided on the direction of the organization for the next three years with policy revisions and executive committee and union council elections. Five key issues shaped the discussions: the environment, occupational health and safety, the fight against systemic racism, social rights, and mobilization.

There were numerous presentations of unions on strike or lockout, including a moving speech by the president of the Syndicat des travailleuses et des travailleurs de Rolls-Royce Canada (CSN), Frédéric Labelle. The 530 aircraft engine maintenance workers have been without a contract since March 2020, and have been locked out of their work since mid-March. The AGSEM Executive Committee stands in solidarity with these workers, and all workers of the CCMM who are fighting for fair contracts and safer working conditions.
