BBQ and Rally at Roddick Gates

You’re invited to a BBQ lunch on us, the Association of Graduate Students at McGill (AGSEM)! On Wednesday, August 31 from 11AM - 1PM, we will be at the Roddick Gates giving out lunch to AGSEM members and rallying in support of invigilators, who are in negotiations for a new Collective Agreement.

What better way to kick off the 2022–23 academic year than a free lunch and rally in support of your fellow workers?

And, hey, if McGill keeps paying us such terrible wages—or removing our wages from our funding packages—we’re going to need all the free food we can get.

Plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and GF options available!

Invigilators have been without a contract since May 2020. In that time, Quebec’s minimum wage of $14.25 has surpassed our 2019 wage of $13.88 per hour. With inflation at an all-time high, we need to have a wage that reflects the value of our labour. Unfortunately, our employer does not share the same concerns.

This September, the Invigilator Bargaining team is heading into conciliation with McGill. This means a neutral party from the Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT) has been assigned to our negotiations in order to facilitate a resolution. Conciliation is usually a lengthy process. Thing is, we could resolve the negotiations tomorrow if McGill would just put more money on the table. Instead, they are dragging out negotiations and keeping invigilators at the minimum wage.

So come out on Wednesday to support fair wages and good working conditions at McGill, meet your fellow workers and union activists, get involved in your union, and have your voice heard. Lunch is on us!

You are an AGSEM member if you are a current TA or invigilator, have worked as one in the past 12 months, or if you have signed a union card as part of our unionization drive.
